bocce ball__winning teamsThe Christian & Small and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) teams finished as co-champions of the 2014 Birmingham Bar Foundation’s Sixth Annual Bocce Ball Tournament. Managing Partner Debbie Smith, Partners LaBella Alvis, Dan Sparks and Jon Macklem, and Associates Abbott Jones and Jordan Wood all contributed to the firm’s success throughout the competition.
The tournament consisted of 18 teams organized into two brackets. The ADR team won its bracket, and the Christian & Small team defeated the team from Balch & Bingham to take the second bracket win. Judge Michael Graffeo, who officiated, then called a draw because it was getting late and because Alvis was playing on both teams. Smith and Jones, both of whom serve on the board of the Birmingham Board Foundation, were new to the game, but still made some valuable contributions – with Jones making the winning shot of her very first match.
The Birmingham Bar Foundation’s Annual Bocce Ball tournament benefits the Legal Aid Society of Birmingham and the Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program. The Foundation’s mission is to encourage and unify the philanthropic and educational efforts of the Birmingham Bar Association for the betterment of our community and for the promotion of justice.
