The Journey for Justice Project is to honor the extraordinary work of Birmingham’s legal community during the Civil Rights Movement, and to educate the public about the role lawyers and the legal system played in the fight to end racial inequality. The Project is a joint effort of the Birmingham Bar Foundation, the Birmingham Bar Association and the Magic City Association.
There are three components to the Project: the Journey for Justice Gala, the Preserving Justice Documentary and the Journey for Justice Teaching Modules.
The first of these events, the Journey for Justice Gala was held Saturday, May 4, 2013 and honored 28 legal pioneers in Birmingham’s Civil Rights Movement. This event was co-chaired by Deborah Alley Smith, managing partner of Christian & Small.
