Christian & Small Partner LaBella S. Alvis was recognized by outgoing Alabama State Bar President Augusta S. Dowd as the 2018 recipient of the Commissioners’ Award during the June 2018 Alabama State Bar Meeting in Sandestin Beach, Fla.
In particular, Alvis was recognized for her work on the Member Relations Task Force, which she co-chaired with current Alabama State Bar President Sam W. Irby. Dowd also acknowledged Alvis’ other involvement in state and local bar service, including her work as a founding member and director of the Birmingham Volunteer Lawyers Program.
Alvis is currently serving a two-year term on the Alabama State Bar Board of Bar Commissioners, representing District 10. She has a strong passion for going to court and has been doing so for more than 30 years. In addition to handling trucking and aviation matters, Alvis has experience with products liability, professional liability, liquor liability and coverage cases. Her professional liability work includes hundreds of EEOC and employment liability claims, medical malpractice defense, construction/architect liability, and Civil Rights litigation alleging violations under 42 U.S.C. § 1983. She brings an extra dimension to liquor liability claims due to her experience as a certified ABC Board vendor trainer.
