During the months of March and April, Christian & Small participated in the YWCA’s 2012 Mother’s Day Flower Sale to benefit KIDS (“Kids in Distress”) Korner, a free child care program for children of homeless families provided by the YWCA of Central Alabama. Thanks to the generosity and support of Christian & Small employees, the Firm raised nearly $1500 for the 2012 YWCA Flower Sale. Christian & Small attorney Leslie Allen was the Firm’s Representative coordinating orders and deliveries.
KIDS Korner serves families who live in Birmingham area homeless shelters and provides daily child care to the children of those families. On any given day, the program provides 25 to 40 infants, toddlers and preschoolers residing in local homeless shelters with quality, licensed child care in a warm, nurturing environment. The program also has a specially designed curriculum for these children and provides two hot meals, as well as a snack, a day, in addition to many special programs catered to their specific needs. This program is free to homeless parents staying in area shelters and enables them to work, participate in job training and look for housing. KIDS Korner provides a much needed safety net for these children whose days and nights are filled with uncertainty, instability and insecurity.
The annual Flower Sale provides one-third of the operating budget for Kids Korner, so its success is crucial for the program. The Flower Sale offers a variety of beautiful flowers and other items for sale at reasonable prices, and area companies, including Christian & Small, have a Company Representative who coordinates sales within the participating companies. Christian and Small employees ordered flowers during the month of April, and then orders will be delivered to the Firm on Friday, May 11th, just in time for Mother’s Day.
