Christian & Small is pleased to welcome Avery R. Phillip as the newest associate in the Birmingham office. She will focus her practice on representing clients in civil litigation, primarily in transportation, insurance, insurance defense, and product liability. Originally from Madison, Alabama, Avery graduated from the University of Alabama in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and minors in Mandarin Chinese and Political Science. In 2024, Avery earned her Juris Doctor from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law.
While at Alabama, Avery was a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity and the Kappa Delta sorority. She graduated magna cum laude and made both the Dean’s List and the President’s List. At Cumberland, Avery served as President of Cumberland’s Public Interest and Community Service Organization (CPICS); was a member of the National Trial Team, the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), and Women in Law; served as an Honor Court Justice; and was a LexisNexis Student Associate. She was also a Veterans Clinic Student Representative and participated in the Alabama State Bar Free Legal Answer Clinic. Additionally, Avery received numerous academic awards, including the Scholar of Merit and CALI Excellence Award in Jury Selection as well as Mediator Advocacy.
Before joining Christian & Small, Avery worked as an In-House Law Clerk for PS Logistics, LLC, and as an Employment and Labor Law Clerk for the Federal Aviation Administration Office of the Chief Counsel.
