Commercial Litigation Associate – Birmingham, Alabama
Christian & Small LLP seeks a commercial litigation associate attorney to join the firm’s Birmingham office. The position involves a diverse commercial litigation practice that includes some insurance defense but with emphasis on business disputes, real estate and construction matters, and complex contract litigation.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will represent regional and national clients in a wide variety of matters, including:
- Breach-of-contract, business-tort, and shareholder/partnership disputes
- Real estate litigation involving lease enforcement, collections, title and boundary disputes, and property-rights issues
- Construction-related matters, including defect claims, project-delay issues, and storm-water/surface-water disputes
- Commercial transactions and workouts that require strategic litigation planning or pre-suit resolution
- Creditors’ rights, foreclosure, and enforcement proceedings
- General business counseling and risk mitigation for corporate and real-estate clients
The associate will take on significant responsibility early, including drafting motions and pleadings, managing discovery, conducting depositions, preparing witnesses, and supporting trials and arbitrations in both state and federal courts.
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of civil litigation experience, preferably with a focus on commercial, real-estate, or construction matters
- Alabama Bar admission (or immediate eligibility for admission)
- Strong analytical, writing, and oral-advocacy skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and work collaboratively within a team environment
- Sound judgment and professionalism in client interactions and strategic decision-making
