Legal Assistant – Bankruptcy Litigation Support

The Birmingham office of Christian & Small is looking for an experienced Legal Assistant who thrives in a busy legal environment and enjoys being a key part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities
  • Drafting and polishing legal documents and correspondence
  • Keeping case files organized from open to close (you love a good system)
  • Supporting attorneys with research and trial/hearing prep
  • Managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and coordinating travel
  • Communicating with clients, witnesses, and teammates with professionalism and confidence
  • Jumping in on general administrative tasks that keep the office running smoothly
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant
  • Bankruptcy experience is required. Experience in Business Services, Commercial Real Estate, General Litigation, Foreclosure is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently while still being a great team player
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and legal document management systems
  • Clear, professional communication skills

Legal Assistant

The Birmingham office of Christian & Small has an opening for an experienced Legal Assistant to become part of our team and to assist attorneys through the performance of complex administrative duties requiring knowledge of legal terminology and the legal process. 

The Legal Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to our legal team and ensuring that all legal documents are properly filed and organized. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities
  • Drafting correspondence; and typing and formatting legal documents;
  • Opening, organizing, managing and closing files;
  • Assist attorneys with research and preparation for trials and hearings;
  • Highly proficient in scheduling meetings, managing calendars; and making and/or changing travel arrangements;
  • Effectively communicate with witnesses, clients, colleagues, and partners;
  • Perform general administrative tasks.
Requirements
  • A minimum of four years experience in a litigation support role in the practice areas of Business Services, Commercial Real Estate Transactions, General Litigation, Foreclosure, and Bankruptcy is strongly preferred;
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal document management software;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

Litigation Paralegal

Christian & Small LLP has a career opportunity for a skilled Litigation Paralegal to become a part of our team! This position will be responsible for supporting attorneys in the various aspects of litigation related to case preparation, management and execution.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate manage and organize all case files during all phases of the litigation process, and assist in trial preparation;
  • Organize and review exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices;
  • Conduct research to support legal proceedings;
  • Draft and review Complaints, Discovery, Motions and other legal documents;
  • E-filing experience in all courts;
  • Manage case deadlines, calendar hearings and meetings;
  • Categorize, interpret, and summarize information and documents provided by clients, opposing counsel, and third parties.
Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Attention to detail and outstanding organizational ability to prioritize and complete high volume work with tight deadlines;
  • Strong knowledge of motions, electronic discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, practices, etc.;
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, and document management software;
  • A positive attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Education & Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree, paralegal certification, and five or more years of experience as a civil litigation paralegal is strongly preferred;
  • Four years experience preferred in the areas of Business & Commercial Litigation, Civil Litigation, Construction, Insurance Defense, and Professional Liabity.
