The complete Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act.
The Affordable Care Act was upheld. The individual mandate survived as a tax (not under the commerce clause). The Medicaid provision was limited but not entirely invalidated.
Chief Justice Roberts wrote the majority opinion, joined by Justices Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan). Justice Ginsburg also authored an opinion, joined by the rest of the liberal wing, that would have upheld the mandate under the commerce clause as well; obviously that opinion is not controlling. Justices Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, and Alito authored the dissenting opinion, which would have invalidated the entire ACA.
