Christian & Small Partners Sharon D. Stuart and Robert E. Cooper recently presented to a crowd of close to 500 attendees during the Attorneys Insurance Mutual of the South® 2014 Annual CLE Seminar on Dec. 14, 2014 at the Sheraton Hotel-Civic Center in Birmingham, Ala.
The presentation, “Ethical Obligations in Jury Selection,” was followed by a panel discussion with three sitting state court judges – the Hon. Steven Haddock, Hon. Donna Pate and Hon. Caryl Privett.
“Thanks to the Internet all types of information exists in the public sphere that is accessible with a few clicks of the keyboard, and almost everyone has a presence on social media these days – whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or even Instagram,” Stuart said. “In some respects it has never been easier to research potential jurors, but as attorneys we have a responsibility to conduct that analysis in responsible, ethical ways.”
Cooper authored a post on this topic for the firm’s Nonstop Insights blog back on Sept. 2, 2014: “Social Media Research and Maintaining High Ethical Standards During Jury Selection.”
