Putting Alabama Back Together Again takes a look at rebuilding efforts six months after the devastating tornadoes of April 27.
After the initial clean up,  the rebuilding began – and so did the legal issues. Richard E. Smith commented, “We are seeing a number of insureds asking for advice on how to prepare their proofs of loss for claims, as many of them have never had total losses fo buildings and business operations.”
The Bottom Line – What changes or lingering issues have you observed as a result of the April 27 tornadoes in the Birmingham area?

“We have seen an upswing in the number of property and business interruption claims being filed with insurance companies and claims that are not being resolved. That leads to a substantial number of contract and bad faith claims against insurance companies and insurance brokers and agents. The events of April 27 should be a wake-up call for everyone who owns a home or business. Take the time to talk to your insurance agent to make sure you understand what coverages you have and what coverages are available to protect yourself in the future.” Richard E. Smith
