Christian & Small is pleased to announce that Partners LaBella S. Alvis and Jonathan W. Macklem appear in two of Benchmark Litigation’s 2017 rankings lists. Alvis was recognized in the 2017 “Top 250 Women in Litigation” list, and Macklem was recognized in Benchmark’s second annual “Under 40 Hotlist.”
This year marks the sixth research cycle for Benchmark’s “Top 250 Women in Litigation,” and this is the fourth time that Alvis has been honored with this recognition. According to Benchmark’s website, “attorneys named to the 2017 publication were chosen through several phases of research: namely, the review of their recent case work, peer review in which we consider how attorneys at peer legal institutions might rank them, and a consideration of client feedback on their performances.”
Alvis has a strong passion for going to court and has been doing so for more than 30 years. In addition to handling trucking and aviation matters, she has experience with products liability, professional liability, liquor liability and coverage cases. Alvis’ professional liability work includes hundreds of EEOC and employment liability claims, medical malpractice defense, construction/architect liability, and Civil Rights litigation alleging violations under 42 U.S.C. § 1983. She brings an extra dimension to liquor liability claims due to her experience as a certified ABC Board vendor trainer. For additional information on LaBella Alvis, please visit her full bio here.
In this second edition of its “Under 40 Hotlist,” Benchmark’s website states that “these practitioners, all aged 40 or younger, have been deemed the most promising emerging talent in their respective litigation communities in the U.S. and Canadian litigation community by peers and clients.”
Macklem represents and advises clients on a broad range of legal matters, including employment, construction and commercial matters, in Alabama and across the Southeast. He regularly defends clients in complex contractual and business tort proceedings involving Director/Officer liability issues, shareholder disagreements and franchise disputes. A member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, Macklem defends clients in a variety of employment matters, including claims made under federal law such as Title VII, ADA, FLSA and FMLA, and represents companies against retaliatory discharge claims.
