Macklem and his wife Elizabeth are spearheading “Macklem Miracles,” a March of Dimes fundraising team in honor of their twin sons, Raiford Montgomery (“Ford”) and William Whitfield (“Whit”) Macklem, for the Birmingham “March for Babies” event.
Click here if you are interested in donating or joining their walking team. The “March for Babies” event in Birmingham will take place on Saturday, April 25, at 9 a.m. in the Uptown Entertainment District (2221 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. North).
Ford and Whit, who were born weighing 1 lb. 8 oz. and 1 lb. 12 oz. at 25 weeks on July 1 (106 days early), have overcome many obstacles in the months since their birth and continue to make tremendous strides daily. The Macklems provide frequent updates on Ford and Whit’s progress on the twins’ very own Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/fordandwhit.
At publish time, Team “Macklem Miracles” has raised $1,765 of its $5,000 goal. Funds raised in conjunction with “March for Babies” support research and programs that helps mothers have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. They are also used to bring comfort and information to families with babies in newborn intensive care.
The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
