Jonathan Hooks recently moderated an appellate presentation at the Alabama State Bar’s annual meeting. Hooks, who just completed a three-year term as the bar’s statewide Chairman of the Appellate Practice section, introduced and posed questions to a distinguished panel of appellate practitioners, including the Honorable Joel F. Dubina, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit; the Honorable Scott Donaldson of the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals; and two private practitioners, Ed Haden and Marc James Ayers.
The panelists presented their thoughts on “How Trial Counsel Can Win (or Lose) Your Appeal,” focusing on issues trial counsel should consider in order to position a case well for any appeal that may come about. Hooks, who was reelected twice as section chairman, will now step into the role of Immediate Past Chairman to advise the new chairman and officers of the section.
