Kenneth O. Simon has been appointed Appeals Judge for the Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF) by Jack M. Weiss, Appointing Authority for the GCCF. Ken is one of 25 members of the legal community from Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi asked to serve.
Ken, a former Circuit Judge of the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Alabama, is one of three from the state of Alabama including: Judge Delores R. Boyd (ret.) of Montgomery, Alabama, former Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama; and Dean John L. Carroll of Birmingham, Alabama, Dean and Ethel P. Malugen Professor of Law at the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University and former Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. In announcing the appointments, Weiss stated, “The Appeals Judges selected are highly competent, respected and experienced men and women from the Gulf States most affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. I am confident that the Appeals Judges will be impartial and that they will use their experience and sound judgment to decide GCCF Appeals with fairness and in keeping with the law. These outstanding professionals should be commended for their willingness to serve the citizens of our region.”
Weiss was appointed to serve as the Appointing Authority by GCCF Claims Administrator Kenneth R. Feinberg in March of this year.
